I have a lapstrake dingy I've been building. What kind of primer should I use on the sapele plywood hull, for a marine alkyd enamel?
Thanks,
Chuck

Choose the top coat then read the directions on the label. It will tell you the appropriate primer(s) to use with it.

No primer information on George Kirby Jr.'s paint, or their website.

Do a search or look in the FAQ for "Red Lead", which you can buy from Kirby or Sandusky or mix yourself. An excellent primer for alkyd oil.
Shouldn't you just be able to give Mr Kirby a phone call at home and wake 'im up or interupt his dinner and ask him?;)

I use Kirby's paint, if you request it they will mix and send you a flat primer..,colored to your request, they will also advise on thinner NOTE do not add linseed oil I was told...their paint is awsome for the weather here..its just beads the rain off...and holds up better then any other I have tried. I thin my primer down for the first coat, thicker for the next two. Then paint ( roll and tip ) first coat verticall, lightley sand between coats, with pad, next coat tipp right to left ,last coat tip left to right ... the finish will come out like glass
