View Full Version : bend in exhaust pipe better than welded angle?

The last part of my boats exhaust needs to be led through a scoop. The rubber hose now comes from the top and makes a 90 dgr bend trough the transom via a knee joint that had a piece of pvc pipe "connected" to it to lead the exhaust trough the scoop (clever quality huh?).

The deck of the scoop is removed now but after refitting the inside of the scoop won't be accessable anymore. I want to fit a stainless steel tube with a flange welded on the outside to get the best water tight connection and have a 90 degree bend or angle in the tube to fit the current hose.

Is there a difference in engine performance if a bend is used rather than a welded corner? The bend micht be a bit cheaper to have made, the welded angle would take up the least space. The engine is a 13 hp Yanmar, the hose is 45 mm or about 1 3/4 inch.

Thanks,
Sven

You will see no difference. Whatever fits best unless its a radical restriction.
