I was just wondering what would be an original way of fastening lapstrakes to each other? What about sealing the boat? Would it be brass screws or rivets? I'd like to build a lapstrake boat but don't really care for using fiberglass resin. It just seams to me it would take away from the craft a little.
What are a couple good books that would teach these type methods of construction?
Thanks
Brian

You have much reading to do, grasshopper. :)
John Gardner and Pete Culler would be a good place to start.

Oh, yeah, your first question - clench nails or rivets are used to fasten laps.

Walter Simmons has some books on building, fastening and sealing lapstrake boats when stored or transported on trailers. See http://www.duck-trap.com/dtpress.html
I think Building the Herreshoff Dinghy, The Manufacturers Method, by Barry Thomas, published by Mystic Seaport Museum, is one of the best for understanding lapstrake construction.
