Il Pipi, the '48 Thistle found so happily on this forum, is getting it's rebuild. Puzzel of the week is the mast.
We've had most of the usual suspects gathered around the mast trying to figure out how those three tiney spreader pairs are attached. No theory makes enough sense to justify potentially destructive force yet. Something appears to be keeping what appears to be a hollow ss rod right through the mast and a kind of gromet on each side keeping the stay tangs next to the mast - keeping all that in one place.
If there is anyone who has ever removed the spreaders from the wooden mast of a Thistle, please give me a hint.
