It has been a big weekend for my Lightning project. First, I got a call on Friday that my trailer had arrived about a week early. Since the trailer isn't a whole lot higher then the cradles would be I decided to flipped it directly onto the trailer. This also allows me to move the boat around so I can build a small enclosure for it during the winter. Here is a few pics of the progress:

Here is a pic of the Lightning with Keel and Skeg attached and resting on temporary supports. This allowed me to totally disconnect the boat from the strong back with out it only resting on the centerboard trunk.

Here is picture of the new trailer. You can see the rear support near the transom.

After finally rounding up a couple extra hands, the boat was turned on placed on the trailer.

I also made a mast crutch so I could temporarily set the mast in position so it could be used for a tent pole to keep water out of the boat.

The last picture shows the inside of the boat sitting on the trailer with the temporary mast crutch clamped to the transom. The bottom of the boat has been coated with epoxy in preparation to being painted white.

This week I will be attaching the deck beams, mast partner and the supports for the seats.
I also hope to set up the enclosure to allow me to work later into the evening (lights) and I won't have to cover the boat when finished.

Good job! But, from the first picture it looks like you need to take a break and do some roofing. ;)

Let me see, roofing or building a boat? Damn hard decision! Actually I'm renting the house so its the landlord's problem.

There is a reservior about 4 miles from my house that has a Lightning Club. I might also sail up
in Lake Michigan near South Haven.

Carl;
Looks like a great job. One thing I think you should do before winter sets in is make sure you get something on what looks like raw plywood on the inside of the boat. It would be a shame to have moisture attack that paint job from the inside out. IMHO

Thats the first thing on my list! I will be coating the inside of the plywood with epoxy and then painting it white. There will be bright work on the coaming, centerboard trunk, seats and floor.
