... according to Muammar Gaddafi, that is. He is in France chumming with his buddy Nicolas Sarkozy. Sarkozy says they discussed human rights. Gaddafi says they did not. In any event according to Mr Gaddafi "human rights are not an issue in my country," which he said was governed by "direct popular democracy".

One thing they apparently did discuss was a $14 billion trade deal which includes an agreement by Gaddafi to purchase military hardware exclusively from France, among other things. Many French opposition politicians boycotted the visit. Story from Al Jazeera:
