I'm replacing bottom outer plank on skiff. I've removed rotted wood and screws down to inner plank. The boat is 16ft, will I need to steam the cypress to work it. Any helpful hints on glueing. epoxy, etc... will help. Thanks

If you haven't destroyed the original outer planks, and you like the way they were lined off, you could use them as templates. Steaming shouldn't be nessasary exept for maybee the hood ends depending on the model. Start from the sheer up to the turn of the bildge and from the keel down, saving shutter for last. I would spile it.

Thanks Stephen, The bottom plank is useless as a template. The wood was rotted from the transom to the to the forward third. The rotted section is about three inches wide. I need to replace it. It's a Chesapeake skiff. It was made of blond cypress. What other wood could I use to replace it.
