Last chance for an official "progress update" before the first sail... I took these just before knocking off for the day. SWMBO and I take her out, under sail, tomorrow morning. (I'll post a few pictures of her under way on another thread...)

Thanks for all the help, encouragement and inspiration over the months and years, folks! It wouldn't have happened without you!

Ok, I'm going to make a bad pun you've heard before, but a true Work of Art. Just amazing.

Art-

In my opinion, yours is one of the classiest boats I have seen on this forum.

Good luck going forward and congratulations again on a fantastic job.

"...What is that behind yours, the next slip???"

--------------------

Not sure if you mean the power cruiser off my stern or the "lofty vessel" in the backround. The former is a vintage yacht that was donated to the center and was just up for auction. Not sure what the result was, but she could have been had for less than I'd be willing to take for mine! Beatiful boat. Very "Gatsbyesque"... The latter is the lumber schooner WAWONA. Sad story there. She's lost her lease and doesn't appear to be long for the world. Speculation is she's a future dive site. She's pretty badly deteriorated though, and I can understand why most feel the resources to "save" her could be far better expended elsewhere. I'll miss seeing her there though.

I've been trying to come up with an appropriate thought to post on your "launched" thread. Now this.

I just can't find the words. "speechless" doesn't even cover it.

Art,

Beautiful boat!!! You should be proud.

I thought the waterfront looked familiar. I was just there earlier this year. The Center for Wooden Boats a must see for wooden boat folks
when visiting Seattle (along with REI).

BTW, did they ever finish the Lightning they were restoring?

Carl.

I stopped by at CWB this afternoon and got to sit and chat with Art for a while. It sounds like she sails as beautifully as she look. Lots of fun talking about the luck and trials of making such a wonderful craft. Got to now a resident gongoozler that has been shadowing them since arrival at CWB. Once he finally moved on we popped a beer and toasted to great projects and incredibly understanding mates. I look forward to getting a sail sometime soon.

Thanks for the brew and the visit Art. May you have many happy times with both Melindas.

That first picture of the rigging is poetry,
and so is the rest of your fine craft.

Hey Art,
How are you involved in the Center for Wooden Boats? I saw a cool TV spot on NBC's "Today" show on CWB and heard Bob Perkins (the CEO of CWB(?)) talk about it while I was drooling in front of the TV. CWB has got to have something to do with the beauty of your boat. The design and execution is stunning - JB
