Hello all
First post here
Kialoa is an alden Seagoer Ketch design#894-C,built by Morse,Thomaston maine 1954, Mahogany on Oak, 44'11" X 32" X 5'3" X 11'4"Picture posted to "my Wooden boat".Usual assortment of repairs to do, i am working on her Website ,will let you know when its up. I do have a question. Her Keel bolts were replaced about 4 years ago by a well respected shipwright. She has an iron keel and he used Silicon bronze, what do you think? I will be dropping her ballast during the rebuild and am curious what experience you all have had with bronze in iron

Welcome. She was always a serious successful ofshore boat and should be still. The bronze will tend to degrade the iron but there is sooooo much iron the effects should be insignificant. It will be interesting to see. The state of the keel and deadwood in contact with the iron is more in question. Good luck. Looking foreward to the progress.

The experts (not me), like Stewart, agree with Thad. The two metals are far apart on the anode/cathode galvanic scale, or whatever its formally called, with iron far the less noble of the two, but with so much iron compared to so little of the bronze its not supposed to be a problem. That's what the books say, anyhow smile.gif

Thanks
I think that after 4 years (dry stored winters)the bolts will probably look ok so I was worried about long term performance.
Thad what do you know about the seagoers?
