View Full Version : regatta series will now include smaller boats?

The wooden boat regatta series for 2008 will be allowing ALL sizes of wooden sailboats? Is it fair then to assume that race courses will be set up in more protected waters for say a group of boats in the 25-30 ft range. If that is the intention, great!! There are a whole bunch of beautiful boats in that size range that are not designed to thrash around in rough seas with the bigger boats.

On this site. Just click on the regatta series link on the main page and it says that the series will be open to ALL wooden boats this coming year. I take that as meaning somewhat smaller boats are now welcome.

Could be wrong, but I'd sure like to find out. There is a phone number to call listed. I will call tomorrow.

I raced the Marblehead race in 2006, and hope to do several more in 08. Around here there are a number of boats that might have come out but were too small. I would guess they are trying to boost turnout a bit, and maybe a few people with perfectly acceptable boats in the 20' range expressed an interest.

After all, Dan Noyes raced this in the '06 Gloucester Schooner race:
