Two more Buckley Smith/Hugh Lane sea chests. One of these days I'll have my own website...
http://www.buckleysmith.com/marinart.html
These are commissioned as Christmas presents for the kids - mermaid for the girl, pirate for the boy. Leathered grummets, carved initials/date in the ditty lid, hey, it beats bicycles under the tree!
Now I need to build boxes for my boxes to send them off in. Seems redundant!

Great work Hughman. They are exactly the type of my G.Grandfathers sea chest, Royal Marines circa 1860. (Without the decoration of course). Now in the posession of my oldest nephew.

Glad you enjoy them.
These are for someone else's kids, My kids are gonna have to make their own! (Why deprive them of all the fun?)

What great gifts for those two.
I think the plural term for seachests should be a 'haul' of them. ;)

I sometimes think I'm just providing fairly useful frames for Buckleys work.
(It's just a job, ma'am.)

What a fantastic gift, Hughman. These gifts won’t wear out like a bike or a Play Station – definitely looking at family heirlooms in the making. Handsome stitching as well.

I think the sea chests are gifts from the parents to the children, not from Hugh or Buckley Smith to anyone. The gifts are very generous ones:

You are correct. They are commissioned projects. As I posted in #6:
These are for someone else's kids

Beautiful work. They look like six-board chests?

they look like six-board chests; The top has beed breadboarded, to insure stability for the canvas painting stretched over it.

Hughman, Thar be some lovely "carpenter's joy" as the Swedes would say. And smart grommets. Not to mention the outstanding paintings as well. And what Clyderigged said, a lasting heirloom and a family treasure. WELL DONE! JC. p.s. What is it with you Hughs? Mine 10, and an artist too?
