Now Donald, it is unseemly to gloat...
;0 )
Far too nice to be cooped up in the shop, so I worked outside all day, repairing stucco on the house and rigging up rain-chains in the place of the old downspouts. Our huge bay laurel drops so much stuff (MUCH more than just leaves) that the downspouts become vertical compost containers, hence the chains.

Glued the top and bottom half of my mast together today.
Yeah i like those rain chain things. Creative idea, and boat like too.
I took the gutter off of one side of my house ....no more problems.
The other side had those ribbed black plastic downspouts that always got clogged. Now I put on smooth sheetmetal. we'll see.
Took a short motorcycle ride and also took my wife to the ocean for a couple hours.
Good to hear from you Thorne.

Only went skiing once. Too dangerous. Those long ski's could twist your knee but good. I liked watching others ski while i had a hot chocolate. INSIDE by the fire.

Thorne is right,no gloating permitted :)
It has been a fresh -7C (19F) here and winter hasn't even begun yet. I have to move my work now to the interior of my boat as it is just a wee bit too fresh in the boat shed and the interior of the boat is heated:). I really need bright sunny days to get bowshed temps up into the low teens C ( 60ish F)
Have you got a launch date penciled in yet Donald?

Low 20's this morning. Surprising for this time of year in Oklahoma.

It MUST be winter -- I took the sunscreen out of my boating bag yesterday...
;0 )
Note - not a gloat, but humor. There is a difference, really! (right....)
Off to row around Decker Island on the Sacramento River today.
Hoping I won't have any use for the following knowledge, but not really convinced of it, as we'll be rowing past some PRIME windsurfing areas -

It was actually dead calm. I kept thinking that the wind would pick up as it reportedly had the previous two days, so after we returned from visiting Decker Island and everyone else took off for Korts to play music, I stayed at the dock and put up my sails.
The boat then drifted away from the docks with the ebbing tide, sails up and doing nothing. Rowed back to the docks after drifting up the slough and having lunch, but even after taking the Delta Loop road past Kort's and back around by Brannan Island, there was no wind at all in Windy Cove.
I was in Hayfork and Weaverville yesterday. It was 69 degrees according to the car thermometer and GPS. A beautiful day for exploring the Trinity river area.
Now we are in Bandon OR and its nowhere near 69. Still nice though...about to go for a walk on the beach.

Yeah Thorne, I had the boys out on Lake Chabot yesterday afternoon. Same conditions. No breeze kicked up in the afternoon at all. Stayed like a mill pond, but still cool with high overcast. Didn't catch anything. Took some bird pics. John

Its not that bad. Heck I live in the same mountains, about 30 minutes away from Snow Valley. I was fine in jeans and a t shirt...

Here's a photo from the dock at Decker Island, with all the water surface being moved by boat wakes, tidal rips and currents -- no wind:

What's boating on Lake Chabot like -- didn't even know you could launch there. On Google Earth I can see a marina at the SW end, but not sure if there is a public ramp there or not. Are motors allowed (not that I have one)?

We had a 39C (102F) here last week - and it's only spring. And every drop of rain that can be caught is cherished.
Glad to hear that the mast is coming together Donald.

Thanks Boatbear. How do you take photos of a mast?
You know the distortion and everything.

Umm, you could cut it up into convenient lengths. No, that's just silly. I guess it is only the top and bottom bits that really matter. I'm sure you could organise some 'break lines' as you would see in engineering drawings. How's it progressing - have you started the endless trudging back and forth with the plane yet?

Ouch, that is cold. Still, a young fit fella like you should be able to work up a bit of a sweat. Send rain, I'll send warmth.

It is best to use a camera for true photo quality images :D.......other then that, some nice long quarter shots, some pre-assembly shots showing the laminates, a few shots showing all the clamps or clamping devices used, you know.....a how-I-did-it photo step by step gallery :) Anything less is for amateurs :D
Keep a good thought Donald!
Peter
got back home and it was 23 last night. Perhaps we will buy a winter place in Cali.
Still need to check out the Igo - Ono area though.
