I am going through withdrawls (how the heck do you spell that anyway?). Haven't been on a boat of any kind since September. Not even one of the kayaks. Part of it has been that I am back to working about 60 hours a week, and the other part is that the only boat I've got that I can take out by myself is the IC, and I just haven't worked myself into that again.

Dang it.

Isn't that how it's spelled down South? :D

That's not nice talk.
Come on down, we'll go sailing but better bring the longies as it's getting chilly.

of a Finn in mind. That looks like it would be a few seconds of fun followed by months of hospital time and therapy.

Softy not getting out on a boat in year round boating waters????? I would not admit it at all. I am actually on the opposite end of you. I am tired of boating and took the day off to eat more ballast.;) You may want to delete this thread since even a guy from NovaScotia was able to sail in Nov. too this week with me. We have now entered into our eleventh month this year of being on the water in some form of boat in our spare time. Its all about priorities.;):p Wanta borrow a canoe?

Why would I do such a thing? I want to share this misery with as many people as is possible.

I am Finnless. The IC is a hazard to navigation. The Dragon is stripped nekkid. That leaves the Star and the schooner. Uh, not sure why I couldn't take out the Star or the schooner, but I haven't. Dad gummit! That's beside the point. I miss sailing and I haven't done any.

And to all of you who live in the frozen wastes north of Alabama, let me just say 'na nana poopoo'.

:) Dang it. A guy can't even feel sorry for himself around this place!

Joe!

What happened to the front half of your boat? I can't see it, but it must be there somewhere!

I can slip that rascal on and I am in-visible! My kids told me Harry Potter had one of those coats.

Not sailing makes me depressed, even ill. That's why I bought a sailing canoe, then a melonseed. I sailed the 'seed on wednesday, it was cloudy, foggy, about 50, wind S, force3. All good, improved my week. I still miss my Friendship. The 6-month repair has become a 3 year rebuild. Keep the faith.

I'm thinking about sailing today - just have to bundle up. Rain for the rest of the weekend :(. Maybe next weekend will be nice.

Re tarping of boats for the season:

Mine looks like the image above also, but I have left the ends open a bit.

My son salvaged a "muffin" fan from an old PC. I screwed it to a foot square piece of plywwod, parked it on a thwart and plugged it in.These things draw about .5 amp; we leave it on 24/7. This keeps the condensation from accumulating.

Now if I could just figure out how to keep the critters out...

p.s. It's 8 degrees C today (Vancouver BC) if the weather holds I think I'll take out one more time (again) on Sunday

I read in "Yachting World" today that Petticrows are shipping 10 new Dragons to the West Indies to found a new club there!Sounds like a good opportunity for some winter sailing.

Well Mickey that's no good. We could have three races today dedicated to speeding your return to the water in the Open Keelboat Division of the ACT Dinghy and Small Keelboat Titles ... to help you feel somewhat better.

We blew a race yesterday, like a newbie doing sail training. Actually we blew two races yesterday. Finishing on the wrong side of the Committee boat in one race but we went back and crossed on the correct side, causing us to lose two places and in the second race by not protesting, after not been given water when we called for it, which caused a collision with the committee boat, which was good. The look on the face of the new RO was worth seeing. Yesterday was a very interesting day.

Our club has a RO from Canada who is with us for this season. He is from Toronto. Michael Holbech. He is a professional RO. He said to me, "I don't recognize the boats you guys sail here except for the Lazers and Tasars, where I race we race in J Boats." ... and now he is getting to know the skiffs after being closely introduced to a Flying Fifteen yesterday.

Anyway, back to your aqua-wellness Mickey, today we will race thinking about you if that suits you. I'll tell my Skipper that there will be three of us on the boat today. An International crewman will be symbolically racing with us, who strongly suggests that we lower the forsail 7cm to become a deck sweeper. I'll say that you know that it will work, so I can blame you, is that OK ... just in case we get pinged for doing it.

I hope the three of us will sail well today with our new jib setting ... we will need to.

All the best Mate and may you have a speedy return to the water. I miss your race reports.

Warren.

I wish us luck :).

Actually, I have been invited to come to Sydney in January 2009 for some Dragon racing. I don't know if it'll come together but I am thinking along those lines.

Your wish of luck hopefully is all that we will need ... and we have now read all of the race instructions. We will improve today ... we couldn't get much worse than yesterday's fiascos.

That is a while away yet, stranger things happen. You would like racing in Sydney. Sydney has a fine and beautiful harbour. You could also visit the Australian Capital Territory if time is on your side and see today's course on Lake Barely Sailable to discuss where we got today right ... you might like to helm our main class of open keelboat even.

I'm sorry Mickey that we couldn't give you the Divisional win in our State Dinghy and Open Keelboat Titles, to add to your resume' ... but I hope you are happy to settle for coming third ... (one point off coming second, sadly).

But the three of us won the Flying Fifteen Association Silver Title ... congratulations. Is this your first International Flying Fifteen Keelboat State Association Sailing Title ... won in Australia?

My Skipper Lee was very happy with your virtual contribution to our psychological preperation for today's racing. We had a chat about you not sailing because of your long hours spent at work and you were our most welcome virtual crewmate today.

The second place we had today in the final race, finished the somewhat windless regatta on a high note after yesterday's fiasco of throwing away one very good result, which eventually cost us the second place overall in the Division ... all because I didn't study the race rules closely enough.

I don't know if you would have approved of us hunting up boats in the final race, entrapment more like, to force an OCS start for our closest rival ... including having him disqualified in the race, by not allowing him to dip the start. We were only thinking of you when we did it Skipper, wanting to give you part of the Title ... I see we now made the right decision on your behalf.

Hopefully, to see you in Sydney Skipper.

My friends Matt Owen and Gus Reid, won the 2007 Australian Flying Dutchman Titles, which was also a Division of the ACT regatta. It was a good regatta all around ... but sailed in little wind with many hours just sitting on the beach wating for delayed starts.

Warren.
