Laurent Gile design no. 62, Woodpecker of Poole is a beautiful boat. She is 70' LOA, 65' lwl,14'beam, 24.75 tons. this give a D/L ratio of 90. She has a good "comfort rating" according to Ted Brewer's formula of about 55. Would those who have boating experience please venture an opinion on how seakindly this boat might ride.

Kharee,

She used to role quite a lot, take green occasionally when heading into 12 to 16 foot swells and pickup on following waves planning. Handled up to force eight in Christchurch bay(England) regularly.

We all know that there are compromises in every boat design. Thats why I was wondering how a beautiful boat like Woodpecker would ride at sea. I have the lines plans for Woodpecker and have found her to be quite similar to the line plans of a German S-boat, which I have just compared them to, found in Dave Gerr's book for the nautically obsessed. These fast displacement boats were very seaworthy. So maybe Woodpecker is a true lady of the sea.
