What Im looking for is some confirmation that Im on the right track. What you see is the inner deadwood (roughcut) on the keel ( the plans refer to the keelson) also you see the sternpost. the boat is strip built upside down but I found it easier to place this section rightside while I complete the inner deadwood. Has anyone in here heard of inner deadwood? The way the drawing shows it is that I strip over the deadwood all the way up the keelson then placing a keel cap to create a rabet, make since?
Now if Im on the right track, I would like to know if I should epoxy with screws or will epoxy be enough to hold the deadwood in place until I strip around it then screw the strips into the inner deadwood on both sides basically creating big a wood sandwich. Also I was thinking while I have it right sideup going ahead and drilling hole for the drive shaft and cutting the opening for the prop. What do you think? The wood is all VG Doug Fir as of right now. I would like to use a more denser wood for the keel cap. The drawing really kind of skips this area and when I tried to talk with Ken Hankinson a few years ago I got the impression he didnt have much info on the wood version. I hope this all makes since

Thanks

I built the shop 24x48 with 16 foot high ceiling. I also put in 1 1/8 tongue and grove floor. The studs are all 2x6's my only regret is that I didnt insulate the walls, I got cheap. Im thinking of getting a hanging gas heater to warm it up a little while I work, someday maybe. I thought of the LP construction heaters that just blow hot air but not sure yet.

I agree, nice shop.

I would think that if you laminate all the pieces of your inner deadwood with a good epoxy (West or the like) you won't need any screws, ever. The inner and outer stems on my boat (Ness Yawl) are bent laminations (just epoxy) and they are totally solid.

I'm really curious though - what boat are you building? It looks like you're off to a great start. Share pictures with us from time to time. ;)

Cheers,
Garth

Howdy, Ted.

Your set up looks real good from here!

I think your deadwood should have some drifts to hold it together. Your plans don't show any?
