Occasionally I'll tune in for my own amusement just to see what the poor bastards are ranting about.
Today, they are blasting Obama for refusing to say the Pledge of Alligience and to wear a flag pin on his lapel.
To hear them rant, one would think Obama was a terrist out to cripple Amurica.:D:rolleyes:
It is pretty sad, though, that there are people calling in to these stations that are stupid enough to believe the garbage these blow hards are belting out over the air waves.

These guys are rolling in the dough. They'll say anything.
I don't sing the "Star Spangled Banner" any more. Rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air don't appeal any more, and I used to test them for a living. It is what my country is doing with them I don't like.
I haven't said "under god" in the pledge of allegiance since it was put there, thanks. And I was 12 or so when it got put in. It should be removed.

MMike I do exactly what you do. I thought of a great drinking game sure to get anyone trashed. Every time one of them says Drive By Media you have to do a shot. 10 minutes into Rush's show you would need a new liver. :D
I also LOVE to listen how many ways they bash Hillary. Today they went so far as to compliment Bill Clinton as being a gifted speaker who possessed so much charm, and that Hilary was no way as charming as her husband. It must have made Rush throw up a lil in his mouth to have to admit Bill was a charming and personable speaker.

Yeah, this guy here in Memphis called in and said Obama didn't love the Lord and that him running was a slap in the face to good Christians every where.
Gawd, get me outa this part of the country and somewhere in a nice blue state.

This republican thing has gone so rotten that a bunch of former ditto heads are realizing that something is real wrong and it might look bad to continue to mimic the drug addict and the others.
Some, at least in my neck of the woods, are appearing to be trying to seperate and demonstrate they can think for themselves.
They look like the dubbya trying to join in with African drummers.
Ever listen to Boortz or Savage? They have big listening audiences.
America should be invaded and occupied.

Right wing wackos. Left wing wackos. They're all wackos. I don't care what wing you are as long as we agree on freedom - my freedom. Leave me alone. I don't want the right wingers telling me what God wants me to do and I don't want the left wingers telling me that, the "people have spoken" and now they have to take the pay I earned to feed the children of the people who didn't earn any. It's always for the children...
no mo republicans
no mo democrats

I don't particularly care for any sort of wackos, but I'm more scared for my own personal safety by the right-wing variety. The right wing wacko tends to be much more highly armed and organized. I'd much rather have a commune of tree-hugging hippies for next door neighbors than a cell of militia freedom fighters constantly exercising their second-amendment rights.

GREAT post, Rich! Every now and then, somebody comes along and clarifies the opaque.... nobody like Tom Bodett to do that! :D
(Disclosure: I live in a Blue state. I like country music. I don't drive a truck or SUV, but I don't drive a Saab or Volvo, either. and I HATE Starbucks coffee!)

Yep and in this part of the country they're actually pushing over the air waves for people to go out and buy guns.
From what I understand, there has been a big response from females so that little fat soccer mom running over everyone in her Ford Expedition on her way to church on Sunday morning is libel to be packin a pistol.

Yep, nothin' more disturbing than a fully armed and loaded soccer-mom with a mini-van full of screaming kids. I know that I would be close to the edge and ready to snap if I were in that situation myself. . . .
Always thought it was interesting how these people who supposedly follow the Prince of Peace and Mister "Turn the other cheek" are also so fond of packing heat. WWJD? I'm sure he'd be sporting a big .357 Magnum on the hip with a Glock 9mm tucked into the back of his robes for secondary in case those Pharisees tried disrespectin' him again these days. . . . .

I'll confess to owning two Volvo's, I like the wagon best, The radio picks up 4 different public radio stations, the 6 CD changer lets Noam Chomsky get me pissed off at the military/industrial complex for hours on end. The cargo area has enough room for a cooler full of iced Chai Tea , three pairs of Birkenstocks, 10 protest signs and a 12 gauge in case of the need for serious anarchy.
The only bad part is going to Tanglewood for BSO concerts. I have to find my Volvo in the dark amongst the 10,000 other Volvos parked there.
Hey I resemble that Volvo ;)

You 'paraphrased' me. How quaint. Whatever suits your needs dude.
Quite frankly, your exhibiting a narrow minded point of view. My point concerning the picture was that it was my wife in the image, and as always we should be polite when dealing with spouses. There has been some ugliness exhibited here lately by certain members. In fact, your doing the same now.
If those values disagree with yours, then I'm overjoyed that we don't see eye-to-eye.

Well Brian, when you post a picture of your wife brandishing a gun and then you admonish everyone to "mind your manners", then maybe you're not being very clear about your point. I absolutely agree that it is against the pale to launch an ad hominem attack about anybody's spouse, and that was not my intention.
Your knee-jerk belligerence is certainly one of the qualities you frequently exhibit in your posts that I do have reservations about, and I guess that's why I'm not so thrilled that you're heavily armed. I'll make sure not to look you up next time I'm in Sitka.

Well Brian, when you post a picture of your wife brandishing a gun and then you admonish everyone to "mind your manners", then maybe you're not being very clear about your point.
So when confused, you attack. Okay, as long as we understand where you come from, that works for me.
I'll make sure not to look you up next time I'm in Sitka.
Certainly your loss. We were heading out to the WhaleFest cruise this morning and I read Mikes post about soccer moms and Expeditions right about the time the wife asked which truck we were taking. It just clicked... so I grabbed a pistol out of the cabinet and we stopped at the soccer field on the way back and took a couple pictures.
It's freaking funny to most but the extremely sensitive, and those just looking to post negative things. Sadly, that appears to be you.
Thanks for dragging a funny picture into the dirt. Guess if your not happy, nobody else can be happy either.
Take some time, change my words, put quotation marks around them, and come up with a new lame argument.

Brian I love ya ;)
Don't like your politics
Don't like your hunting
Don't like your guns
But damn it I like ya ;) and your wife and kid.
I like your humor, and I love those beautiful photos you share of some of the most amazing natural surroundings. It would be my pleasure to look you up and buy you a beer and maybe even go out on one of those cool aluminum landing craft boats you use. As long as you don't shoot any bears we should be cool ;)
BrianW

I knew you'd think it was funny Joe! :)
Wish I had some cool humpback pictures to share. There was about 35 of them, according to the expert whale science folks onboard. And, they were close enough to the boat (legal and all, I wasn't driving ;)) but they didn't breach or anything spectacular. They just were just sounding and blowing.
Anyhow, any bears I shoot with you around will be with the Canon XTi. ;)
... I don't care what wing you are as long as we agree on freedom - my freedom...
Thanks. You make me laugh.

How did we get to the point where so many men are afraid of guns? "Ewwww, it's a gun." I can't even say it without dropping my wrist.
A gun is simply a piece of safety gear. You don't go "ewww, it's a life jacket." or "ewwww, it's a seat belt." Guns bought our freedom and no country has ever been free for long without guns to keep their freedom. There are bad guys, whether we're talking in your neighborhood or worldwide, who are willing to hurt you to take what you have or, even, just because they don't like you. Guns are the only thing that keeps those guys at bay.
James McMullen
11-04-2007, 10:33 AM
You should be afraid of guns for the same reason you should be afraid of your tablesaw--both of them can severely hurt you if someone uses them improperly. Don't treat them casually. I keep my guns , a 12 gauge and a .22 rifle, in a locked closet, unloaded--and if I had children at home, I would go even further and get an actual gun safe.
My wife's brother had three rounds pass through the wall of their living room at shoulder height when they were living in north Portland a few years ago--a domestic dispute across the street. Luckily they were in the kitchen at the time. I guess they needn't have been so concerned as it was actually from a piece of safety gear.

You shouldn't be afraid of them but respect them. The last person I want using dangerous tools in the shop or anywhere near me is someone that's afraid of them.
Occasionally I'll tune in for my own amusement just to see what the poor bastards are ranting about.
Uh huh. . .surrrrrrre. I think what we have here is a classic case of a closet right winger. Good act though. Your own rantings are almost convincing. :D

Oh nonsense! The last person you want handling a dangerous tool is someone who minimises how dangerous it is. Someone who is cautious is much less likely to hurt themselves or others than someone who is cocky and oversure of themselves.

Please read again the part where I included "respect" in the reply. People who are afraid of tools are skittish and likely to be too cautious or nervous. People get hurt when they become complacent or are inexperienced or scared. Respecting the tools means one is likely to stay focused on what they are doing instead of looking for a way out at the slightest warning and usually at the expense of some unsuspecting person in the way. Kind of like dropping the gun when it goes off or closing their eyes and having it discharge again. Someone afraid of heights will be the one who's knees shake the ladder.

I guess we're just arguing about semantics here. When I say you should be "scared" of a tablesaw I don't mean you should be terrified and squint your eyes, lean back, and hold on to the board with only two fingers when you saw. . . . . .I mean you should have a healthy respect for the fact that this thing could quite possibly kill you if you cut through an artery or take a kick-back in the spleen. I don't think someone who's terrified should be switching on a power saw of any kind.
You should be scared of things that can hurt you. That's what makes you go to the trouble of wearing boots in snake country, wearing your life jacket even when it's hot out, and taking the time to unplug your tablesaw when you're changing blades. And use a push-stick fer goshsakes!
keelbolts
11-04-2007, 06:57 PM
I agree. Dangerous tools should be respected. I respect both my power tools and my guns. Both are useful, but can hurt you if you're not careful. It is scarey to hear that some bonehead across the street put three rounds thru your brother's wall, but that same bonehead is driving up an down his street each day. I hope your brother hasn't turned off his airbags because they have hurt people when they deployed.

Yeah, and I keep my table saw in the closet, unplugged, with the blade off.
Ever seen the results of tablesaw kickback? Right through the walls, yessir.

Oh, sure. We didn't just fall off the turnip truck. It's obvious you two hate tires and are gleefully terrorising the left front tire. It's pretty telling the right front is not being viciously harassed and tormented.
