Almost every winter we adopt (I.E. freebie) or buy a wood boat to fixup. These are some photos of this winters project, which we acquired a couple of weeks ago. She was built he in Rock Hall in 1966 by Benson Duvall. Benson, who died this past Jan., built 13 boats from what I can gather. She is interesting in that her bottom is typical Chesapeake Bay "deadrise" workboat type construction while her deck/cabin are more typical of a pleasure type boat. She weas built as a charterfishing boat. She is 29 ft. long, 10 ft. beam and constructed of pine for the hull, oak for the keel and frames, cypress for the bottom, and mahogany for the trim.
She is floating and usable (with some care) and has some soft planks by the transom, both above and below the waterline, deck delamination around the foredeck hatch, problems and the stem, and misc. small areas of rot and other problems all over the place. We'll be hauling her out sometime in Dec. Until then she makes a fine fishing, harbor cruising and bar hopping vessel.
