Hello everyone, my name is Bob and I'm a lurker. I've just finished (well almost) an 18' Simmons Sea Skiff. This forum is a wealth of information and I want to thank you for sharing it.
I have a background in structural carpentry and concrete, this project is my first attempt at building something that's not square or level- on purpose.
The Simmons is more than I hoped for, a cost efficient fishing platform, able in rough and shallow water. What a boat!
Here are some pictures, the second link is a little boring. I can take the criticism but need to share any positive feedback with Pipefitter, he had time for my questions.

Calling a boat builder a "house carpenter" is an insult but it looks like you made the transition in fine style. Your boat looks terrific.
Sounds like the Simmons was your perfect boat but don't be surprised when thoughts start creeping in about the the next more-perfect boat!

Hi Bob,
While I'm sure there are many things you will want to do even better on your next boat (that's how I feel, anyway), I think she's a handsome little craft and well put together. I hope she brings you many happy days on the water!

Shop vac propelled? That's pure genius man. I guess it pays to think outside the duodecahedron.

Lovely work Bob. Be careful, curving wood is addictive.

Beautiful boat,Bob.
Wait until you see how stealthy it is fishing. It's very quiet on the drift or with push pole.
As far as questions throughout the build,it was from the plans as Dave directed from the building notes and correspondence with him throughout the build of my own. I found his methods to be faster and less complicated as far as the details go. Pretty much,if one reads the entire information booklet, including the conversations with Mr. Simmons leading up to the publishing of the lines/plans, it's all there for reference. The way that Dave arranged the plans, kind of puts one in the passenger seat for a feel of how it all came about, with a more intimate grasp of the mindset of Simmons himself and how he went about his own building and work ethic. After reading everything and seeing some of the details of it's construction, you kind of get the idea that this is indeed a carpenter's boat.
Congratulations,Bob, and thank you for sharing the project. I enjoyed watching you build it. You should be very pleased with the results.

I will bump this thread up so that the two links and in water shots of the 18 are avaliable for the new builders. Great job Bob. The way you did your well and transom area was creative.
