I'm sure that most of you would be aware of the plight of tropical rainforests in South East Asia, Africa and South America from clearfell logging and "expansion" of palm oil plantations. Most of you will more than likely be sourcing your timbers from local species because they are cheaper and you can easily check up on the provenance of its harvesting.

If you are going to use tropical timbers I strongly suggest that you check the provenance through highly reputable organisations that the timber is from either plantation (and how that plantation was established) or properly managed forests.

We've just seen another doco' on the orangutans of Borneo... An area the size of 300 soccer pitches are disappearing every hour from Indonesia alone.

Even if you're not using tropical timber it's still an issue raising hell over!!! Write to people who can help make a difference, and ask food manufacturers who use palm oil where they get theirs from! Or just don't buy stuff with palm oil in it!

Have a look at this link:

When you see the baby orangutan clinging to its murdered mother your heart strings WILL break!:( One more thing in our world gone topsy turvey to fix, but every little bit counts!!!

Cheers and peace! :)
