...Turn a key, press a button, and have whatever it is that I'm trying to start, actually work without needing tweaking, nudging, rebooting, adjusting, reloading.....

In the old days we would just use an old inner tube to make a new belt for it, duct tape the hole closed, and hold it all together with tie wire.

30 years ago, I used a typewriter for reports and articles I was writing. It was purely mechanical, didn't need to be plugged in, didn't take time to boot up, never crashed, and could last for decades.
...and I wouldn't want to ever have to use one again.

Who needs cell phones, my ancestors used smoke signals...worked fine as long as it didn't rain, bows and arrows worked a helluva lot better than flintlocks under similar circumstances.
