I posted this on Donn's torch tread ,but thought I'd ask directly .

I have a 7.2 volt Makita torch with rechargable NiCad batteries .It's a great torch except that it blows bulbs with monotonous regularity .I'd love to fit a replacement LED .Does anyone know where I can get a 7.2 volt setup ?

Peter, a duo of 3,3 Volt Luxeon packs in series would make your day, or nearly so !

I donīt suppose you would want to be tinkering around with these, specially as you would also need to address the mechanical packaging and optical requirements, in order that they may function satisfactorily as a substitute for the bulb.

Suggest you surf on the torchlight forums that Donn mentioned on his thread and you are very likely to find what you are looking for.

The most active flashlight forum I found was CandlePower Forums (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/).

Wow. They're just like wooden boat enthusiasts, except they really, really love flashlights. They get together for "flashapaloozas," and post pictures of people waving their flashlights around. They belittle newbies with poor taste in flashlights. Their LED subforum has 329,000 posts. They have a bilge, of sorts, featuring pictures of food and a "never ending story": http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=25

sure beats the plastic shoelace tip forum , got trashed over there on my first day for having frayed boot laces

who needs 'em anyways

The small plastic sheath at the end of a shoelace is called an "aglet", any wonder you got trashed. :)
