9/16 sail on the Rappahannock

Had a chance to take my small catboat out a few Sunday's ago. I keep it on the Corrotoman River in Virginia. My neighbor and I took it out into the Rappahannock for the day.

Saw the Miss Anne (http://www.tidesinn.com/missann.cfm)out of the Tide's Inn, headed for Urbanna. The topsides look like wood, but they are painted steel.

A nice working boat. My neighbor would like a small version of one of these to putter around in. I showed him the Redwing, but he wanted a more traditional 'Baybuilt' look.

Pointed toward Urbanna. We could have made Urbanna in time for lunch, but would not have been back to the dock. As it was, I had to use the trolling motor for about 15 minutes to get us up a relatively narrow channel back into the Corrotoman. The channel runs NE/SW, and the wind was NE around 15. I could have beat back and forth, but promised I would be back to the dock by mid afternoon.

Fall in Virginia is beautiful, although the leaves this year might not be as colorful, due to the drought.

Good afternoon Marshcat,
Are you going to be in the Turkey Shoot Regatta this Saturday and Sunday? I plan to at least sail in the Saturday race. I have a Bristol Channel Cutter and am located up the Eastern Branch If you are not participating it should be good to watch as there are suppose to be a number of traditional design boats involved.

I can't participate as my boat is only 16ft, but I may go out to watch on Sunday, depending on the weather. I keep the boat in the creek just across from Yankee Point Marina, which is hosting the regatta.

Good looking catboat you have. I'll keep my eyes peeled for her.
Maybe I'll see you out on the water. How is the Penobscott comming along. So far I have the plans and the mylars are turing yellow from age....or is it the time of year.

I think I am the only red-hulled small catboat around the Corrotoman, so I am hard to miss.

On the Pensobscot, I have finished the stem, transom, and a few frames before I stalled a bit. I am not going to beat myself up too much about taking long pauses in the building process. The mylar stencil is OK, but I should probably roll up the plans tacked to my shop wall, so they don't fade too much.

I made the Saturday race but had to get back to NY on Sunday. How did you make out. The A 35 is a great boat. Were you tied up at a slip in Yankee Point? Think I saw your ship

You looked great. I also sailed my Bristol 32 in the race Saturday, but had to get back to Deltaville early Sunday. It was great. The last time I competed in the Turkey Shoot was about 15 years ago when I sailed my wooden Alden Malabar Sr. Things sure have changed. Hope you had a good time.

Saw you in the race. I think there was also a Bristol 40 as well. Alot of good looking boats. I was solo so could not take the pictures I wanted. It was a good race. They seem to have it pretty welll organized. Had a great time but regret I could not do the Sunday pursuit race as well.

I was there on Saturday only.

Boat is in a slip at the end of the first dock you come to.

Winds was awful for big old full keel tubs like mine!!!

I ended up not coming out on Sunday, as I had to attend a funeral in DC.
