All set to head out for a day on the water. thought I'd check the engine first, no start. Bummer!

It is a 1981 35 HP evinrude which has been running great. The engine has the CDII ignition system.

Tried to figure out why it would not run. Found it that one plug has a good spark, the other one no spark. It's not the spark plug or leads as I have reversed both and the results are the same.

Checked primary and secondary coil windings on both coils and they read identical. Even so, could it still be the coil? Perhaps the power pack?

Suggestions needed.

Thanks very much

Swap the leads from the power pack to the good coil to the suspect coil, (don't try to start of course) and check spark. If you have it, the coil is bad, if not, it's the power pack.

Bob: Sounds like a good plan. A question, though, do you happen to know how to remove the leads from the three pin connector? Do you just pull them out?

As I recall, the pins are retained by 2 or 3 prongs that push against the body of the pin to remove ala Molex or Amp connectors. There is a tool, simply a tight fitting hollow tube that slides over the pins to release. Installation is simple push in. If my feeble memory is working!Good luck.
