View Full Version : Treated plywood
what is the recommedation of using treated plywood for areas of the forward deck and bridge floor. On the forward deck the plywood will be covered with teak. The bridge floor will be covered with marine carpet. The project is a 1961 CC Constellation.

Carefull with preasure treated plywood, it likes to delam and the over all quality is pretty bad. You can probably find some decent doug fir marine grade for not to much more than pt material.

dry it
seal the edge with epoxy
coat the surface with some polyurethane varnish
I know it is supposed to be waterproof glue, but I have seen it delaminate when the wood is saturated like it may get under a carpet.
Try to find stock that has sat around for quite awhile so that it is very dry...then you can seal the edges with CPES and/or epoxy and of course double or triple coat with with epoxy on the flat surfaces...or even glass it.

I used a piece for an outdoor project that was initially very wet - from the treating. It also had some areas of delamination. Since fabrication, however, it seems to be pretty stable and no further delamination has occured. So, it seems that if you can get a decent piece, dry it out, and treat it with penetrating epoxy, and seal the edges you sould be pretty good - IMHO.
