My favorite is Caroline Magerl's drawing in WB a few years ago (can't find it online, alas) showing a young couple sailing close-hauled in about 35 knots of wind, heeled over about 45 degrees, reefed way down, full foulies, spray blowing everywhere, cold and miserable - He says, "I though this was supposed to be a romantic cruise". She says, with a wry grin, "I'm not wearing any underwear". My wife and I had many a laugh about that one on San Francisco Bay in much the same conditions.

A one-panel 'toon, I saw a few years ago:
The scene: Two old Mainer fisherman out in their peapod. At night. In a storm -- howling winds, horizontal rain, big seas running, breaking waves. Got their foulies and souwesters on. They're both smoking pipes. Bowls upside down, of course. And they're pulling for all they're worth.
"Must be pure hell ashore on a night like this," hollers the one guy to t'other.

Mine is a couple sailing past a huge blank billboard on pontoons ,
says one ,"it must be one of those unwritten rules of boating ".
