this deck is so worn that the wood beneath the caulking stands higher than the deck planks. once sanded flush i will need to create new rebates for re-caulking.
freehand routing seems a bit precarious. I'm toying with ideas like removing each plank and and preparing on the bench or making some kind of tempory guide.any sugestions?

This is how I router a seam...
Take a strip of cedar thats 4 foot long and plane it square 1" X 3/4".
Take a scrap piece of ply wood 2" wide and in the shape of a triangle, choose a pointed end and cut it to the exact length of the edge of your router base and the exact center of the routing bit. (for my Porter Cable, its 2&1/4") Use this piece to mark from the center of the seam out and mark the base with a short line.
Connect the short lines, scribbing a line to place the cedar strip on. Tack the strip down, following the line scribbed. Run your router down the seam with the base held firmly to the cedar strip.
I also use a "laminate trimmer" for tighter spots...the base is 1/2 the size of the router, and its a 3rd of the weight.
