Was digging thru pictures. Here is one of a number of glued laminated timber white oak frames - ribs for a US Navy minesweeper. This is a photo from 1952 taken at our facility in Peshtigo, WI. The frames were on their way to Burger Boat in Manitowoc, WI for the USS Valor, a 165 ft. long wooden minesweeper.

OK - here's another. This is a glued laminated timber keelson for a 1980s built 224 ft. long US Navy Minecounter Measure (MCM) ship. Again taken at our facility in Peshtigo, WI. It was on its way to either Marinette Marine Corp. or Peterson Builders. I think she's about 140 ft. in length.

Yup, resorcinol adhesive. White oak all heartwood for the frames which are glued at elevated temperature. 160 degree F glue line temperature for 6 hours.
The keelson is all heartwood Douglas fir/larch - nicest Doug fir you can imagine.

Here's the launch of the 224 ft. long MineCounter Measure ship MCM-2 the USS Defender at Marinette, WI on the Menominee River. This was on 04 April 1987. She is wooden hulled, three layers, and wooden framed.

OK, one more picture. This is at Marinette Marine Corp. and all the glued laminated timber frames and keelson etc... were made at Sentinel Structures, Inc. in Peshtigo, WI. Photo taken circa 1986.

My suspicion is that I could more than finish my next boat(s) with the offcuts.
That much Doug Fir really makes me jealous too.

Anything of significant size was kept and ripped, edge glued, end jointed, etc... and reused in some other applicaiton.
All the little stuff went to feed the boilers in our factory which are heated by our own wood waste. It takes lots of wood to heat 100,000 square feet of buildings!
