I won this block on E-bay yesterday and I'm awaiting its arrival, but thought I might ask here on opinions. I'm always looking for blocks on E-bay and had never heard of this one. Searched for it on the web and it runs about $37. I won if for $5.99 + $4.50 (shipping)

Check with Defender Industries online or ask for a catalog, they are usually less expensive than other sources for the same item.

What I'm wondering about is the quality. Are they crap, or did I get a good deal?

I haven't tried that model, but in general Lewmar blocks are quite good. I used Lewmar Ocean Racing blocks on the runners of our trimaran and they were excellent.

My expectation of anything lewmar is that it would be top quality.

The best quality yottiquipment that money (usually a lot of it!) can buy.

I have one Lewmar block on Mirelle; cost me £110 in a chandlery closing down sale. It's a big snatch block which, 99.9% of the time, handles the boom staysail sheet. For 0.1% of the time it is used as a turning block to take the kedge warp to the windlass warping drum if we go aground and have to kedge off, and it is then asked to put up with outrageous loads, which it handles with aplomb.

Racers generally think that Harken is at the top of the heap. Ronstan are probably next (they bought Fredricksen, who made some lovely ratchet blocks), then probably followed by Lewmar. Holt have made great strides recently, especially in smaller sizes.

Well it came in today and I like it. It can be swivel or not. It has a locking lug that locks or unlocks in swival mood. It seems well designed and I think that I will be happy with it or more of them.
