I heard about a plug in adapter/switch that allows the vacuum to turn on when the tool is switched on, like the Fein and Festool vacuums (expensive!) allow you to do. I want to use my noisy but effective Ridgid vacuum but be able to not have to flip the vac switch every time I want to turn on the tool. Can any one direct me to this product?

Cheers,
Clint

I had a couple of those and they worked, for a short while. Fortunately, my ShopVac died so i had the opportunity to buy a Fein vac, which has served well.
I think that Fine Woodworking has published the schematics and how-to's for a home-brewed version.

Chuck, are you listening?

The 5 hp Ridgid vac runs mighty close to 13 amps with a clean filter, that does leave much power to use a tool.

I have a generic remote on/off switch for dust collector .. I suppose it would work for any tool drawing 15 amps or less. Dust collector plugs into remote apparatus which then plugs into outlet. Remote works from 50ft away .... mine is 220 but company makes 110. I'll check mfg name and address tonight and e-mail tomorrow. Mine was $69 .. I believe the 110 is $59

Very handy .. remote is either in my tool apron or hanging from a cord from rafter. Click on / click off in a nano second.

Here is another way,

my neighbor needed help changing his sump pump switch, so i did it for him.

the switch is basically a remote control switch, when the float is up its on when its down its off. so you could plug in both to the switch then fasten the float to your saw, flip it up when you want to run. presto!

check the power rating though.

now what i had on my old saw was an outlet that was switched and a light switch on the front, worked perfect and less than $10. go to the hardware store man! use 20 amp switch/outlet/12 gauge wire if you need that much power. you could even use a gfci.

cheers
