Well, my 23-foot sailing dory "General Arnold" is nearly complete and I'm getting my material together for her suit of sails. One difficulty I'm encountering is a source for hempex or other synthetic hemp rope for use as bolt ropes. Any sources would be greatly appreciated.

Talk to R&W Rope Warehouse. And there was a recent thread here that covered this pretty well.

What size do you need? Grant & Brad at Gambell & Hunter Sailmakers in Camden, Maine stock a nice line in 6mm, 8mm & 10 mm. I'm using it for halyards, sheets, dowhhaul and on the sails.

My preference is this stuff, formerly Roblon(TM), now Spunflex(TM)

I second Gary's preference.
I use roblon for everything anymore.
I even used it for an anchorline on my dinghy.

Why not grow your own?
