I understand the check engine light and why it might come on. However, why would the VSR light, or the stability control system automaticly be disabled when the check engine light comes on? I took my 2005 highlander in for a oil change and tire rotation yesterday. The lights were off driving in and both were on driving out. The toyota dealer in appleton wi thinks it's just a coincidence. we checked the fuel cap and some sensors, everything is fine. for 38 bucks they will do a diagnostic test. I've had other toyotas and the check engine light comes on around 60,000 miles--this one has 59, 159. It's a problem with the emissons system that can be ignored most of the time. The fix is 500 bucks. It's a different story though if the stablity system is also disabled. I just don't see the logic in this.

Maybe when they put the vehicle on the lift to change the wheels around, maybe relieving the suspension components completely all at once did something to the sensors. I would try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. Maybe this might reset the on board CPU or something.

Do what pipefitter said then report back. The system may need to be forced to reset itself. Byt the way, this sounds like a technician screw up. They shouldn't charge you a thing for it.

If it's an emissions problem, it's covered by warrenty for 100,000 miles per federal law.

Whenever lights start coming on, or the ashtray fills up - whichever is first, its trade-in time.
