Now I may be showin me age an all that but I remember vividly this pommy show called Steptoe and son about a cranky old rag and bone man and his son... the old fella was a real scrounger of the worst sort a reprobate and a skallywag

Anyways!!... The inlaws are presently going through about 100 or more years of accumulated family gunk gear an whatnots in and around the old family home which theyve just flogged of and are movin to a mac mansion that doesnt sorta blend with all the finery up there on the hill so its been a daily thing about 9am or so the phone rings "Shane? theres a bunch of stuff here that you might want but dont worry to much if you dont want it we will get a skip an take it to the tip"

Well... never bein one to miss an opportunity Id do the 20klicks in less than 5minutes... the effy can move when she wants... and when I refuse to let the accelorator pedal up of the floorboards she wants!

The wee boat was till about 10 years ago the tender for the inlaws cat but was found to be too small for their needs... we have no idea what boat the wooden mast came of off its been in the rafters of the shed since Rik was a kid so something about 60 years up there... the ss rigging is from Jos uncles 50ft Roberts that hes just sold up in Carnarvon and built on the property

So it came with everything... mast boom rigging sail rudder centreboard all I have to do is recut the centreboard hole! he fibreglassed it so he could use it with the small outboard for beaching up in the kimberlies so I gotta work out where to hack... eerr cut through ;)

Yep thats the one Steptoe an son... GREAT SHOW!! one of the best out of pommy land! :D

As for bathroom fittings... the boat was upside down over an OLD claw foot bath tub that had lost a lot of the enamel or whatever covered it long ago... theres half a sink beside the old leanto and a couple of dunnys near what was the chook house about 30 years ago! So much gear from so long ago its bloody amazing! Theyre only halfway through the 2 bedroom house and been at it for near on a month... the old grandmother was a hoarder a real bower bird... newspapers and magazines stacked in one bedroom dating back to 1920s from England Rhodesia and New Zealand along with old tins and stuff dating back even further... we found a painting an oil by a now unknown artist the name is gone from the bottom corner as has some other areas of the painting of Sir Lawrence of Arabia astride a camel... many many paintings and sketches by god knows who and letters and old septia photographs? I mean some really should be in a museum somewhere in England or Rhodesia and some that should be in the Australian Air museum

We... as in I and the FIL are going to sort the sheds tomorrow and Thursday... Im not hoping to get anything just the sheer pleasure of touching some of the things I KNOW from past ventures inside that cavernous building is going to be enough

Sadly they are running out of time and it all needs to be done by Friday or Saturday at the earliest as the MIL an Jo and Kate head for Singapore on Sunday and the new owner brings in the dozer on Monday... the FIL is getting on and tired as hell... I think its hitting him harder than he likes to admit and feels like hes done the wrong thing by his mum and dad by selling the family home he sorta wanders around the place mostly picks up this and that then puts it down again wanders on MIL tends to get frustrated and gently takes him to task and they get maybe 3 small trailer loads of gear out a day... and looking in the sheds the other day Id say theres at least another 20 or so FULL trailer loads just in there let alone the remaining ones from inside the house... the main house yard is pretty much done the back kids acre hasnt been touched yet as far as Im aware this is where the kids from the FIL down to our kids used to run amok in the ancient tree houses and forts the FILs dad made so many years ago... We know theres a stack of things up there that need to be gotten and packed or given to Jo Kate or her brother Tony but I think thats the final job the end if you will when he will KNOW its over.

Sad really... and I think the FIL knows it and the MIL for that matter but shes more stoic than he and like Jo she gets cranky and gets stuck in "time enough for that sort of thing later" but its been interesting and a bit distressing for Jo seeing her dad slow down so much and wander listlessly around the family home age seems to have caught up with him suddenly.

It will be good once its all over and they can pack up and bolt back to the boat and just get away from everything... he should hopefully spark up again.

Still... some interesting things over there... were in a pretty good spot really when it comes down to it as the new place is on a small block and hasnt the room for any sort of container for storage or much else its an amazing double story house up high on a hill has a double garage and a beautiful but small garden but not much space beyond that so most will end up coming here to be stored or just to keep it from the dozer.

Anyway the wee boats a cutie needs some small fibreglass work and the centreboard being cut out again but other wise everything is there and pretty much intact... Joshys already asking to be taken out!!

Its total pathetic cheep crap and Im damned if I can understand what anyone sees in the shyte... I loved Steptoe & Son as a kid, I often felt so sorry for poor Harold, his old man was so good at stuffing up his plans....particularly if he was bringing a "bird" home :D
