That last pic makes it look like she ran aground at some SERIOUS speed!
They're derigging her too?

They're derigging her too? That will depend on the strength of the hurricane(s) coming.
Taking a page out of Screechy Street's book.

They do that in Fiji as well. We had a thread with photos somewhere/time.

Very interesting photos! Seems like, in some ways, digging in like that might cause a lot more stress on the rigging than being on the water.
The spreaders around the bowsprit got rusty in a hurry, didn't they?
looks like she is right at sea level. Couldnt that location be 15' under water in a direct hit?
why pull her out at all? Its warm year round there isnt it?

[quote=TimH;1643067]why pull her out at all? Its warm year round there isnt it? Yep it is warm year round here.
BUT unfortunately it is not definately hurricane-free year round.
The old neumonic(?) was
June too soon
July stand by
August you must
September remember
October all over
Unfortunately the hurricane seasons seem to be lasting longer.
In addition, St.Kitts does not have any really well protected deep water anchorages to stay in for a hurricane. :(

Kate is now back in the water at Dieppe Bay and is getting ready for the Golden Rock Regatta.

A common practice amongst lobstermen around here is to roll their boats up on the beach before the fall and winter northeasters hit. Not universal, but common, especially before lobstermen couldn't afford shingle beach anymore.
Speaking of hurricane holes, if you are ever mid-coast Maine, just west of the Kennebec, look on your chart for a place called The Basin. The best anchorage for riding out wicked weather I've ever seen. A narrow gut, good ground, and surrounded by granite cliffs and hills. The only problem is crowding. It's a beautiful spot, surrounded largely by conservancy land, so it's become more and more popular. And duh, here I am advertising it! LOL.
