Will be a learning experience any way.

Tom, beautiful work. Very interesting planking sequence sheer to keel. I see that this lends to a desired lay of the strips , straight at the sheer and the make up cuts at the keel.
Very nice.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

The materials are Western Red CEDar, Keel is White oak, the gunwales are ash and white oak. The transom is Black Walnut exterior, with curly maple on the interior.

Here is a link to web shots, that show all the pictures.

Beautiful Tom. Thanks for the albums. It really helps to see how someone puts it all together.

May I ask which plans you used, and what you intend for the boat? I'm considering a sliding seat pulling boat, but there are so many designs and its hard to know which to go with. Are you rowing? Will you be adding a sailing rig? And, most important I guess, are you happy with the plans you used, or would you do something different the second time around?

One last question, if I may. About how much does she weigh?

Thanks again for the inspiration.

Jag, I used the Glen-L 17' Whitehall plan, I modified it to look more like the Bangor Packet which is one of WB's plans in its 50 plan book.

I also took some lines off the Liz, both the liz and the Bangor Packet are beautiful pulling boats, but they are too narrow a beam for me, my butt is wider than their beams HA HA. I stayed with the 54" beam, and modified the plans by adding 3" extra between each station. and changing the curve of the bow to the curve of the Liz and the rake of the stern to that of the Liz but not quite. I think the stern rake is around 15 degrees.

I built it to Row, I am also making some 9'6" hollow birds mouth oars, with spoon blades.

Those also can be viewed on the link above.

I believe the overall weight of the boat right now is around 110 lbs. By the time I get the floor boards in and seats and other wood work, it will probably weigh 175 lbs. It will have 3 rowing stations and a total of 5 places to sit.

Overall capacity or load should be around 1000+ lbs. I will also take along a good strong electric motor to get us back to the car after we get tuckered out.
