Half oval or half round?

Depending on who this is...
When I had to do some major rub rail repair on Clearwater in '95 we got some stuff from that funky surplus place in Kingston. I couldn't tell you where it is since Dave Vhal took me there. Have you asked Don Taube? I will ask some of the folks I know if they have any leads.
Let me know if I can be of assistance.

If it becomes a real problem, you could use the appropriate schedule galvanized pipe, sawn into 1/2 round, welded and fastened through 1/2 oval Black Locust as a backing. That way it would not collapse and would still give you good protection. It would also be VERY inexpensive compared to what I suspect will be a custom foundry job.

onaboat, Tim's got the right idea, If you cut an even larger diameter, schedule of choice, into quarters, resembles more oval. With a craft of those dimensions, a welding setup might be less expensive than 1/2 oval in 12' sections, A solid table saw with an abrasive slitting wheel to do the 2 cuts. Luck on this one, cbob
