I am headed to Nova Scotia the week of September 14. Any must see or must do suggestions? Not necessarily limited to boats and boatbuilding. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Although we 'saw' little of Nova Scotia due to fog, it's a rather spread out place, so..where are you headed? Bras D'Or lake was nice, and the pilot whales in Port Hawkesbury were nifty, but the local guys will have better input

"S.V. Airlie", of course (sorry Jamie, couldn't resist)!

Seriously, there is lots to see. The Cabot Trail is wonderful as is the South Shore. We're near Lunenburg and would be happy to see you if you make it down this way.

Go here to order the Nova Scotia Doers and Dreamers Travel Guide: http://www.destination-ns.com/forms/guide.asp

Go here and click on the regions on the little map on the lower left corner for an on-line list of events, accomodations, etc. for that region: http://www.destination-ns.com

If you are driving here, have the time available, and don't mind "motor-touring", I suggest that you drive the Cabot Trail. The leaves will be turning by then and the drive is spectacular.

I have been there twice now. Some of the things I did besides see the Tall Ships:
1) Hiked Cape Split - this is 8km each way but the destination is spectacular.

2) Annapolis Royal to see Ft Anne, the Tidal power station, and of course Traditional Marine Outfitters.

3) Lunenburg - Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. I got to see a dory being constructed.

4) Halifax - Maritime Museum. Among other things they have a very nice boardwalk.

5) Lake Kejimkujik

6) Whale watching off of Digby Neck

As Gary said it's a pretty spread out place, roughly 100 km across and 350 km from Halifax to Yarmouth. This covers only the south west third of the province so you'll want to plan your trip.

I definitely plan on returning to see Cape Breton. And maybe I'll get to go by the famed Peggy's Cove this time. There is also the tidal bore rafting out of Maitland.

Peggy's cove was cute, but probably not worth the trip... I bet the time is better spent finding out of the way villiages that aren't overrun....
