In praise of Sperry-topsiders the company

This post is devoted to praising 'Sperry' the company (Sperrytopsiders), who make boating-shoes, natical shoes, shoes and far-out-yeeeah marine themed foot coverings. http://www.sperrytopsider.com/

This is not an add. I dont own shares.

I have a pair of top-siders, the traditional style with the extra cusioned sole - they are great, have lasted well and are as 'comfortable' as traditional boatshoes can be. I put a sweat-absorbant-insole in which makes them perfect for my sweaty feet.

They have a lot of competition - Sebago, Red-wing boat shoes (seemingly sadly ignored, but perhaps too expensive), Dubarry etc.

But I want to praise them for the amount of effort they invest in providing 'us' with something new + fun.

I was impressed when Sperry offered sandals with dear-skin lining and gold-plated eyelets (for longevity:D). If a sandal could be cool, these are the closest you can get.

Well I hate to bust your bubble but my podiatrist attributes my foot problems to wearing shoes that give no arch support just like "topsiders".:( I did wear them for years and perhaps too much. Maybe the models you presented give support in the arch region?;)

Those are cool (not), and Crocs (the company) is out of control. I'll start another thread if and when I have time.

Personally, I like the Sperry thong above, but since I already own a fairly large number of shoes, I'm afraid I must pass. NO COMMENTS FROM THE FOLKS THAT HAVE STAYED HERE - ESPECIALLY YOU SAILORDAVE....

Concordia...41 - If I saw a sailing-woman with croc boat shoes approach me on the dock, I would think to my self 'careful, dangerous, man-eater, skin me alive'. This could be a positive thing to use against maintenance crews :)

JDillion - yes, if you shloss around in slippers your insteps may colapse.....(no, I don't know - I am a supernator too - but my doctor said this was an inherited thing and not due to shoes. I have to use solid shoes (Asics etc) to stop me rolling over on my arches) - but I'm sure you could find some from sperry what give you the support you need. Sperry do have a Thong with a decent arch support - look on the site under 'Broad Bill' series.

Isn't anyone else impressed with these shoes?

Anyone here a red-wing fan? I always thought that their normal white-soled work boots and shoes would also work as boat shoes (even though they do make a "top-sider" type)?
