Any suggestions on where to find a turn fin for a runabout ? I'm building a Rascal and need a bronze or aluminum fin.

One possibility is at: http://www.boatracingr11.com/Sorensen_boats/S90.jpg

The plans say that a waterski fin can also be used but I've heard that those are usually not big enough and also some do not mount to a flat surface.

Thanks,
Dave

Any machine shop would be able to make one for you. The fin in your link looks like it was cut from an aluminum I beam. It would also be a simple job to weld one up. I wouldn't bother with bronze for a boat that doesn't live in the water.

They show up on eBay from time to time.

If there's a bronze foundry nearby, cast it. The pattern is trivial.

Try Algonac Cast Products www. algonaccast.com . They made most of the originals.

Try Maine Classics 207-247-6862 Ossipee Hill Rd, PO bpx 719 Waterboro Maine, 04087, they used to sell a bronze rascal kit with widshield brackets, turn fin and a couple other parts.

I got my skid fin from Glen L. Aluminum and not too pricey.

http://www.clarkcraft.com/

This place sells a lot of plans for hydroplanes and I'm fairly sure thay have a fin in their catalog.
