The great thing about boat restoration is that is if you get it right, it looks like nothing has changed.

I assume that you have tented Sarah to build some humidity in the hull in preparation for caulking. How close am I?

VERY!

And it works! In a very unscientific test, we stuck some popsicle sticks in random seams and while I didn't see much difference after 10 hours (not that I'm impatient or anything... :o), this morning (34 hours post tenting and watering and after adding a humidifier to the process) the popsicle sticks are in so tight that it takes a dedicated pull and one James had to grab with a pliers and work it out.

I'm off to remove the tent now (will save for the pre-launch soaking) and I'm going to play around with the caulking for a couple of hours.

The view from inside the tent:

Popsicle sticks visible upper left and about three seams down on the right. Buckets and humidifier and floor soaked twice a day. The humidifier really seemed to make a difference & I plan to keep it running most of the time.

I'm expecting pictures and an accounting of your caulking adventures.
Good luck with the caulking!

Let's just say the romance of caulking wore off really darn quick!!!! :rolleyes:

LOL! Caulking isn't so bad. I just set up a fan, a cooler with soda or water, and have at it. If it takes a few days, no big deal. But you've gotta rig up something to sit on while you're doing it. Saves the back bigtime. Looks good!

Margo,

Congrats on your continued progress. Considering that Sarah took almost 50 years to get to the state she was in when you took ownership, seven years doesn't seem all that long. Thanks for saving a classic!

It does seem 'just like yesterday' since the beginning of the Sarah Saga! A lot of progress on a worthy project.

Wait a minute.... OMG.... if I've spent a half hour a day on the WBF for ten years (?) that's 1825/24=76 days=two and a half MONTHS reading and writing here!

:eek::rolleyes::confused:

looks suspiciously like a name thats bigger than Sarah in that early shot ? The previous owner had some legal problems, and tried to evade the repo man by painting a new name on the transom.... (If I remember the story correctly...)
Looking good boss! :D

I know all those fish are having trouble containing their excitement about the possibility of seeing your hull in the water!
