I am building Joel Whites peapod and wonder if the rivets for the laps are the same size as carvel for the frame attachment and how big for the laps #12 or 13 is called for plank to frame
also the rabbet where the garboard goes in is a nice fit but watertight hmmm.Do you caulk the rabbet like carvel.I would like to finish bright and wonder how to do it and still have it float.Im planking in spanish cedar and hate to paint it . I know ill pay later Thanks in advance

Howdy, Pell.

Your boat is sure to smell very nice. How is Spanish Cedar for boat planking? Does it behave itself?

As far as fasteners go, I think you'll find that the size will be determined by the total thickness of the material you are going through. If you determine the length you want, the appropriate nail size will be whatever is for sale, practically speaking. For instance, 1" copper rose head boat nails are size #14 in the Jamestown Distributors catalog. (And a little spendy, I might add.)
