Thanks for the help folks as I was fiberglassing the wineglass wherry. I'm going to get some pics up, because she's a bea-ute, if I do say so myself. I worked half the hull at a time and I put two layers of glass on each side - therefore 4 (!) layers on the bottom board (as the two layers on each side overlap in the center). That'll give her some strength, eh?
Next I'm going to saturate the inside and install the breasthook, gunwales, seats, etc.
I will be modifying the plans slightly. Since I plan to use this boat on (hopefully) long expeditions in the Sea of Cortez, I'm going to install a bulkhead in between the seats for flotation/storage. I learned from a friend who built the wgw, and sailed/rowed it for the past 10 years around the sea of cortez, that once flipped in more than 6-inch seas, you're boat is as good as gone (without ample displacement).
The level compartment will also allow me to sleep on the boat. The same friend placed a board over the seats and laid down to check if stability was comprimised, which he said it was not. He has also built a Bolger Micro, which he lived out of for 6 months in the sea of cortez.
I'll also be looking into a leeboard system for sailing, as I don't know how to attach a leeboard to this style of gunwales.
Thanks folks,
Will
