View Full Version : Missed my calling in life
The more I think about it the more I realize that I should have possibly set my sights a little higher. That just maybe my true calling in life is to be a Beach Bum.

I think we should sell the houses and buy a 70ft. Schooner and live aboard. Certainly, between the lot of us, we could figure out ways to make enough dough to make it work.

I can do knotwork for the other boaters.... should make acceptance of "our scow" a bit easier.... and I'm GREAT for ballast in a storm....

I just polished off a piece of Apple/Peach/Walnut pie that I made from SCRATCH myself. I think I'll survive.:D
So let me get this straight. All you folks are voluntering to be my support staff while I lay around and become a beach bum?
Sounds good to me. :D

I am a good forager, and a great cook. I can even make jailhouse hooch from canned fruit cocktail (thats the good stuff) or raisins, in a pinch. Ramshackle construction and jury-rigging are additional skills I bring.
What I'm envisioning here is kinda like the Verizon wireless network. ;) :D

I want Lefty as the cook or it's no deal. Now all we need is a skipper and a couple of people that know how to sail the damn thing.:o

Well I've got the 60 foot White Wings on the market right now but there is slow action at the moment.Perhaps we can do a WBF group effort to make her all she should be.:D ...I have subliminally mentioned it but if there is a great organizer amungst us they/he she should step up.

Is White Wings the boat that was moored in Potter's Cove for a couple of summers?
Damn, I always envied that......even envy the campers at Ft. Getty....dropped off some free firewood Tues. aft. to a Ft. Getty camper, and the breeze was 20 degrees cooler than my house!

Yup .That was me.After I got divorced she was offered to me for a good price. But my mom passed away 1 1/2 years ago and my dad is 84 and has little or no domestic skills so I live at home with him now.He has no idea of the effort needed to keep her going.Last year I was in Newport(after Jamestown evicted me).Just going down to do a couple of hours work he was like ,why will you be gone so long?.So my priorities have shifted but I really would hate to see her go.A group thing could be so cool,I know it could be a major problem too.But I DO take my chances.I stayed at Fort Getty a few times in the interum. It's a nice spot if the wind isn't to strong.

Life is short.
There is usually a way to make the dreams happen if you just think about it for a bit.
Our dream was to sail away with our kids for a year. Sold the house - bought a boat - and away we went!
We didn't wanna be on the porch swing in our 80's and have those regrets..."Remember that crazy idea we had to sail away with the kids? Why didn't we...."
Make it happen!!! You absolutely can. Whatever the dream is...these days I find myself lookin at that VW bus too, popeye!....

Yes. But there's a price.
Make sure you're willing to pay the price before you commit.

Gawd, the thought of all of you on the same boat! That's gonna take some getting used to. LOL
I'm a decent boat carpenter when I put my mind to it, and cook pretty well the same. Also a copacetic shipmate. I don't yak like I do here, don't need much stuff and keep track of it, and am ready for whatever chore comes along. But I think we're gonna need a bigger boat.
Chad,
You're what, forty? Robet Bly once remarked that somewhere between your age and mine a man discovers he's been climbing the wrong ladder. Not a unique observation. He often ends up with a sports car, a new wife, and hair plugs, but you can set up a new ladder with less drastic measures. As Brad is fond of saying, do what you love and the money will come. It often takes more than a single leap of faith.
FWIW, you've occasionally struck me as a fellow who takes on too many projects. That can be distracting. Maybe all you have to do is winnow a bit.
