2:01 pm - enter AT&T store. Catch eye of salesman. Give him the "I'm serious" look. Look at iPhone, Treo, Razor, etc. Simultaneously entertain another salesman peddling DirectTV/local phone/Internet package. Decide on iPhone and pay for it while the other sales person puts together a package deal (and retrieves my old home #).

2:25 pm - depart AT&T store with iPhone, approximately $75 monthly savings over current Comcast package, and $400 in rebates ($200 of which cover the modem, installation fees, etc)

I'd be $200 to the good if not for having to pay $30 for a stupid holster for the phone :( and dropping $90 on a Bluetooth hands free car thingie that clips to the visor.

Only gripe - they had to run my credit three times  - Once for the mobile service, once for DirectTV, and once for the home service.

OK, now back to the warehouse...I'll play with the iPhone later... :D

Why it looked so COOL :(

It probably has "Joe" written all over it, but I couldn't decide if it was really cool or really hideous....

I ordered my 8GB model from Apple online at 6:05pm on Friday the 29th. It arrived via FedEx this Thursday at 10:00am. I spoke to an Apple rep who told me over 500,000 were sold between 6:00pm Friday 6/29 and Monday morning 7/2.

I downloaded the Dylan documentary No Direction Home & watched it yesterday on iPhone. WOW! So cool... I'm glad I didn't wait. The screen resolution is astounding. The print and TV ads don't do it justice. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Don't worry about the iPhone's durability... you don't need to baby it. Check this out: PC World puts the iPhone through a torture test (http://www.pcworld.com/video/id,545-page,1-bid,0/video.html)

The documentation that comes with the iPhone is sparse. Yeah the device is intuitive, but I always want more hard copy docs than anyone gives you these days. And, unlike a PC or Mac, the iPhone has no online "help".

Here's the link for the 124-page iPhone User Guide pdf: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf

Also, you shouldn't have any problem setting up iPhone.... but unfortunately I did. Luckily, Apple tech support is outstanding. The Apple rep spent about 15 minutes with me and we got it going (the problem was with iTunes on my puter). The number is: 1-800-MY-IPHONE

Got it :D
I bought it at an ATT store about 1/2 hr from home.
But get this you buy the phone and you cant leave the store and make a phone call you HAVE to activate it via iTunes :(
So Luckily I brought my laptop and found a wifi hot spot.

Arrrrrg but get this I have not DL the latest iTunes version so I have to do that. After that It said I had to update my OS haven't done that so its DL the update. NOW :( :(

So soon HOPEFULLY I will be able to make a phone call on the dam phone. But as a piece of industrial design it is AMAZINGLY beautiful

Worn out by a marathon session of updating my contacts (needed to be done anyway...), I'm calling it a night.

It is really cool though!

I can't get on line with it as I seem to have forgotten (didn't know I had) a password for my Netgear router.

That can go on tomorrow's To-Do list :D

That feature I mastered with a couple of touches and love!

Night all...

I don't know what an iPhone is, and I am doing my best to never find out. I have the same attitude about golf.

Golf and the I-phone do seem to have a lot in common: Golf is a bunch of people walking about after paying an exhorbitant amount of money to be able to smack a small white ball with a stick three or four (or sometimes many, many more) times until it falls into a hole. I-phones seem to be all about having paid an exhorbitant amount of money so you can walk around and punch a screen and fall into a financial hole at the end of the month.

I understand the attraction of neither one, but then I'm an old fogey.

Have fun with your toys, all, but remember: "He Who Dies With the Most Toys Is Still Dead."

Lessee - that be a 2.5G technology would it?

I did a 3G job for an overseas phone company about 18 months back - had to buy a whole heap of 3G phones and GPS setups to check video and download performance around the country.

Unfortunately they had me ship most of the phones to them for testing - but I've still got 3 GPS setups - and my daughter has worn out the last of the 3G videophones already.

I'm getting retro in my approach to phones - simpler is better. Last complex one was an O2 - I reckon its a waste of time stuffing around with styluses and mini keypads (I used to use a Blackberry too)
