We are going to England this Weds for 2 week visit and vacation to see the daughter that is the Air Force. What is the best part of UK to visit some traditional boat sites? I have been searching the net looking for boat shows, but the dates are not good.
Thanks,
Danny

You'll be a few weeks too late for the Beale Park boat show.Fortunately, the place is small enough that you should be able to get to any appealing locations during the course of two weeks. If you are in the London area,Greenwich is the obvious place,Portsmouth will give you the opportunity to see HMS Victory.Do you have any particular special interest?

We will be based in Cambridge, daughter is at the Air Force base. Would just like to see some water with some small wood boats and maybe some builders or shops. We are going to spend a few days in London and a few in Bath.

Well, if you're in Cambridge, the obvious first thing to do would be to rent a punt, and punt down the backs.
Otherwise, if you're renting a car, the Norfolk Broads aren't too far away - http://www.norfolk-broads.com/
Other areas within easy reach are the East Coast rivers - try a PM to ACB, as it's more his area.
Classic Marine are in Woodbridge. I was wandering around the Blackwater Marina a couple of weekends ago, and there was a 50' pre WW1 cutter up on the slips.

Take a trip down to the Thames area. Brightlingsea (smack dock) and Maldon (Thames barge harbour) are the places to see.
Give Andrew a call or write him a PM.

Shameless plug Hunters Yard (http://www.huntersyard.co.uk/) is like stepping back into history - if you're in the area and like sail.

I would echo the comments above re Greenwich and Portsmouth. Portsmouth is an easy day-trip from London and has the Warrior and Mary Rose close by Victory.
Bath is very close to Bristol where Brunel's SS Great Britain is preserved:

Also in Bristol the Slipway Co-operative. They had a pilot gig at the Beale Park show, lapstrake elm on oak with joggled frames - the best bit of 'boat porn' I've seen in many a year. She should just be about finished by now. Be worth checking if she's still there

Close by, also in Bristol, is the Underfall Boatyard who also do traditional stuff:

Enjoy your trip dd!
