Dan McCosh and others have advocated the use of neoprene/chlorinated rubber compounds for paying seams, but I wonder if anyone has any experience of using such materials for painting the whole hull underwater before antifouling.
I came upon the following product,a 'chlorinated rubber paint, Metaclor' by Teamac www.teamac.co.uk (http://www.teamac.co.uk) and a traditional boat supplier suggests it can be used as a coating on old antifouling before a new coat is applied http://www.tradboats.com/paintbarrier.html
On the face of it it seems an excellent idea; has anyone tried anything like this?

I can't see what would be gained by coating a planked hull with such a material. If the idea is to seal the seams, it would be likely to peel off in sheets, resulting in lots of leaks. I have seen it used as a decking material, with some success, however.

Clorinated rubber is tough stuff. I used to make it when I worked at the Farboil Company. As it is made with some VERY strong solvents, it would have a tendancy to soften or lift many conventional coatings.
