The two full days I hoped to spend at the warehouse over the weekend turned into a couple of hours here and there, so instead of tackling one of the big projects I finished bunging and fairing the port topsides :)

It actually worked really well when I only had an hour to spare to run in, mix up a pump or two of West System (with 410 fairing filler), swipe it across the low spots, and then come back in a few hours and sand for a bit.
Even in the picture you can see it's rough as a cob, but it's a start!

The best thing is how wonderful it is to walk in to the warehouse and have the boat looking like a boat again. :) :) :)

You mean our little redhead used epoxy on a wooden hull? I hope Cleek cannot open this thread. :D Worse yet 410 in a warm and sub tropical part of the world? :D Cheers and looking foward to seeing muddy water hide that red color of the hull. Come to think about it, the last red hull that I saw you on was a snot boat, too.

I know, I hesitated to post, but I did my research and by gosh there are several spots on the boat where work was done and it sure looks like that's what they used to bring the surface back fair...

Works great for me, even though it does swink a bit in what you are doing there. The next paint job it will be fine, or so has been my experience. We are looking foward to your in water testing.

Great progress!
If the paint's white, 410 is OK and it does sand nicely.
There was a WB article on the fairing methods of McClave & friends. They used 410.

Thanks Jim. As far as I'm concerned this and all the fairing and painting I'll be doing in the next months is just a primer for the Concordia paint job I've promised her someday. :D

410 is just fine for that application ... who the heck cares if you are using more advanced methods than the 'Vikings!' :D
Once that hull starts looking good, it brings a whole new set of inspirations/motivations.
Good job.

Another one to cross off the list. One of those loose ends usually left to procrastination and it's out of the way. Can't beat that. Looks alot better for sure.
Please allow me to offer my compliments as well.

Margo,
Congratulations. It always feels great to finally have a single color on the hull after a period of scraping, sanding, filing and such. Untill the hull is truly fair and stable you might want to go with a semi-gloss like Kirbys. It hides a multitude of sins. (Speaking from experience.)
Thanks for the update.

If I may, let me add to the mix about what we have found to be very favorable with little work and costs involved in creating a nice surface to paint the enamel topcoats for these wooden hulls. In the last ten years, we have been using Kiltz as our primers and sealers in this type of circumstances. Its really cheap, dries quickly for recoating and part of the ingredients is a form of silica base. This allows the primers to be a bit harder with more body so when you to block out the hull you are not just sanding pigment. Its also mineral spirits based and can be thinned if its too thick.

Yep as to the Kilz. I used it on the interior and absolutely and positively could not be happier. Two thumbs up for ease of application, sheer volume that quickly built, and quick ability to knock flat with 180 or 220.
Standing there looking at the hull, I'm thinking I'm going to fill all the old screw holes and install the port rub rail. That'd get however many feet of bronze trim off the deck, and maybe I'll varnish the toe rail while I'm in the neighborhood. :D
Thanks for all the support. Life is good. :)

Looks wonderful. :) Is there a shot of whiskey for a completed hull restoration as there is for putting the last plank on?

Margo, the progress is just phenominal. Things are really getting done and looking great! The kilz as a primer is a great idea....

What could possibly be more appropriate than:
The "Veuve Clicquot Paintbox"???????

I wish.... unfortunately they are not available in the states. Seems they're available in England... and your lovely bride is working on that as we speak ;)

Many Concordias do have them, and the design is about the best that can be done for the hull, but do you really need them? You could use the bronze elsewhere, and the beautiful hull shape would show so much more without them.
Congratulations on your progress!!
