First post to this forum, greetings gentlemen, hoping to learn best method to clad white oak skeg ...ver 1 was 3 lays polyester resin - 3 lays interlux bottom clad epoxy...3 lays primercote..3 lays intrlux britside - all lovingly done...Skeg and rub strakes had pealing to bare wood where, i think I hit the beach or what ever...at any rate a failure in the coating big time, like the oak got wet and threw the coating off...but only locally (big chunks) So Im thinking I need to do some FRP on the skeg and rub strakes, I have it all off (my aching back) and down to the FRP bottom of the dink (glad I put some pigment into the different layers of the bottom layup) ..Im thinking I erred not doing the skegs with "glass"..and Im going to cure that error, by clading the skeg with 2 lays of 9oz , finishing as before and then caping with some stainless... my question to the group is there a method or material better than Im proposing ? abalone2023, Anacortes Washington
