View Full Version : Odd sanding belts?

I just acquired an older than dirt Craftsman hand held belt sander for my collection of old ahrn. This thing is in excellent condition, and very lightly used in its original case. I would like to put it back into service, if nothing else for the "wow-cool" factor but...

It takes 3"x 26 3/4" belts. I have not been able to find a source for this oddball size. Does anyone know of a source?

Failing that, I have found 3" rolls of sanding belt. Is there a way to "roll your own" belts?

Thanks in advance.

Back in the 60's and 70's I used to order odd size belts for a WWII era stroke sander. Econoway Abrasives, Grand Haven, Mich.

I really do not remember if they actually made them or ordered them from someone. They were nearly 12 ft. long though x 6" w.

Seems like someone closer to you could do the same thing.

"Is there a way to 'roll your own' belts?"

Maybe duct tape on the inside? I'd sure give it a shot. Cut and joined at a long angle to minimize the tendency to catch and rip apart.
