    Of evolution and Senator Brownback

During the recent Republican presidential debate, the moderator asked nine candidates to raise their hands if they "didn't believe in evolution." Senator Sam Brownback, Governor Mike Huckabee, and Representative Tom Tancredo raised their hands. Last week, Brownback wrote a New York Times op-ed attempting to explain his reasoning: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/31/op...erland&emc=rss

The EDGE magazine published a reply: http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/coyn...e07_index.html

Although he's woefully ignorant of biology, he at least seems at first to be trying to keep the distinction between science and religion clear, but then muddies it hopelessly with this:
While no stone should be left unturned in seeking to discover the nature of man’s origins, we can say with conviction that we know with certainty at least part of the outcome. Man was not an accident and reflects an image and likeness unique in the created order. Those aspects of evolutionary theory compatible with this truth are a welcome addition to human knowledge. Aspects of these theories that undermine this truth, however, should be firmly rejected as an atheistic theology posing as science.
    Sigh . . . .

    for nature cannot be fooled."
