I Googled Little Wood Boat works (as on the builder's plaque) but nothing popped up. Beautiful job they made of it though.

I doubt it will sell at that price, but it's a nice looking boat. I expect that a new one of similar scope would cost more to commission, but here we are, a bunch of scroungers who aren't happy unless we buy them off an old lady who only drove it to church...or built it at great pain and difficulty ourselves!
From the item Q&A:
Q: the boat is beautiful who built it and when?
A: The boat is built by a gentleman named Kim Napier in Sydney, BC. He builds 2 per year and this one is almost complete. Just needs it's final polish. Each boat takes approximately 400 hours to build. Hasn't touched water, YET. Thanks for asking
$8000/400hrs = $20/hr with free materials.

There is a Q&A further down the page that mentions Kim Napier in Sydney, BC as the builder. Looks a lot like a Gartside design too. 8K does seem like a lot, but compare that to the Haven 12½ listed in the Brooklin Boat Yard ad in the latest WB for $45K and it seems like a real deal! Maybe custom built wooden boats are finally getting the respect they deserve. :) Though I’ll bet that if you broke down the time and cost to build that skiff, you’d find the builder made about $2/hr on the job! :(

$8K is just the opening bid price... the reserve is higher than that.

That's a nice enough boat and I have no idea what it is "worth" to somebody out there, but...
Looking at the planking lines, I'd say the builder had to cut some corners to get done in 400 hours. Fine for getting on the water, but is it up to professional standards for a "show piece" varnished row boat asking for real money?

I relent to its beauty, but it is still way overpriced for a no-name build.

I've no idea what it ought to go for, but if I were peeling 8 big ones from my wallet, I'd like the planking on the starbord side to look more like the planks on the port side.
Still, given the state of my skills, I'd not be ashamed to say I built it.

You guys are sharp eyed. I didn't see the planking irregularities (apart from those at the stem) until you pointed them out. Perhaps I've been blinded by all the shine and the pretty colors.

Clinker row boats are all about the eye candy - well at least partly - and plank lines are a big part of that. Also the gains at the stem wander about some:rolleyes: $8000?
Eric H's boats are indeed pretty. He does very good work.
